I wanted a burger and fries. He ordered an omelette. The famed Chateau Marmont customarily caters more luxurious lunches, but solid fare sustains the shoot that shifts from Ace Gallery exhibit to art studio to private home, in and around Los Angeles. A landmark experience for me, meeting a celebrated outsider who knows film, art, and photography from the inside; whose lifetime of professionalism has given rise to an arresting blend of style and artistry; whose variety of experience is incomparable; and who was so likeable. What an exceptional day. The fries were good too.
